Sterling Pearce is a modern-day explorer. Whether ski touring or mountain biking into untouched mountain ranges, hiking around rocky headlands in search of new surf breaks or traveling BC and the world for new experiences, he carries his trusty camera and enjoys sharing the stories and photos with friends through his blog. Sterling will also be contributing to the Granted blog.

Through the years and adventures he has come to appreciate the warmth and comfort of wool garments; now Granted Clothing allows him to stay warm and look awesome in whatever conditions he finds himself in.

Our wool

Wool processing from our actual woolen mill in New Zealand.

From raw wool to finished roving.

Looking at sheep always reminds me of the nursery rhyme most of us grew up with. Did you ever wonder what it meant?

"Baa, baa black sheep have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir three bags full!
One for the master, one for the dame, one for the little boy that lives down the lane."

Inspiration: Smithers BC, Canada

Just returned from a trip up in Smithers BC, Canada (A 15 hour drive North from Vancouver). There was so much untouched raw nature to see! The mountains were truly inspiring.

I had an amazing time snowboarding one of the local mountains and checking out some back country areas out on our old retro sleds (complete with neon decals). During our sled up we came across some fresh moose tracks and also saw some eagles gracefully soaring above us.

On our decent down we passed an area of the mountain that was used in the recent movie The Grey featuring Liam Neeson. Fortunately for us there were no killer man eating wolves out to get us like in the movie. However we were lucky enough to see a rare wolverine but it was long gone by the time I got my camera out.

I highly recommend visiting Smithers, BC! There is so much to do! Click here for more information.

Thank you Meyer Family!

A little bit of knitting history: Red cross

A neat story I came across along with some vintage posters from the early 1900's and 1940's.

During World War I and again during World War II, the American Red Cross launched nationwide, volunteer-driven knitting campaigns to supply soldiers and war refugees with warm clothing. These volunteer knitters belonged to a Red Cross unit called the Production Corps that also produced bandages and sewn garments (such as pajamas) for veterans and civilian hospitals.

For more information on the rest of the story as well as some vintage knitting patterns of some of the listed items above along with sweaters, scarves and socks here.

Japan Still Needs Your Help

Two weeks have passed since the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan. Relief efforts have been underway but the devastation is so extensive and still evolving. Our friends and relatives in Japan who we've been in contact with on a regular basis are expressing how much need there is. Please keep their hope alive by donating what you can. See credible organizations here.

Granted is donating partial proceeds of on-line sales to The Red Cross.

Our pixelated world.....

This video really struck a cord with me.
As I watched the video it brought back memories of my child hood, playing video games like most kids do. The pixelated world depicted in this video really shows how I see the world when thinking and designing our sweaters.

I hope you enjoy this amazing video by One More Productions and Patrick Jean.
