Local business feature: Billy Would

We're excited to start our local business features with our good friend over at Billy Would Designs.

Hello. I’m Adea Chung, the maker behind Billy Would Designs. Based in North Vancouver BC, Billy Would is a jewellery and accessory line that uses only reclaimed and recycled wood. Since 2007 I’ve been making pieces with an aim to create a connection between the wearer and this precious material. I want to challenge how we see wood waste, using ’scrap’ to create jewellery we can appreciate even the smallest piece of wood.

I love hands-on creating. Through various tools and lots (and lots!) of sanding, I get to make art and work for myself - still feels like a dream come true. Collecting wood off-cuts, bits of broken furniture and old skateboards has added another element to the process. It's connected me with other woodworkers and amazing people. I’m so grateful to be part of the local artist community, being a small business or artist can be quite isolating at the best of times. This network has become my ’team’, checking in with each other, sharing tips, advice, encouragement and support. It’s the best.

By supporting local businesses now more than ever it feels like I’m supporting friends. We want them to survive this pandemic and know they’re a valuable part of the community.
